Anthem Facts, History, and Local Events

Anthem is a master planned community, a part of the City of Henderson, located high among the Black Mountains of Clark County, Nevada. It is an outstanding Del Webb community, spread over some 4800 acres, to the south of Henderson. The community of Anthem offers panoramic and spectacular views combined with world class civic amenities, making it one of the best places to live in, in America. In spite of its proximity to Las Vegas, Anthem has a far removed and old world feel with homes that are designed to fit perfectly into the desert scenery. The master-planned residential communities in the city of Henderson include Anthem, along with others like Black Mountain Vistas, Champion Village, Calico Ridge, Green Valley Ranch, Lake Las Vegas, Madeira Canyon, Tuscany Residential Village, Seven Hills, and more.

Area Map The community of Anthem features five neighborhoods, each with its distinctive character and lifestyle. Anthem Coventry is comprised mostly of small to medium sized single family homes located around the Anthem Park. Sun City Anthem is a retirement community with a range of prices and sizes for homes, that provides residents with superb amenities such as a well appointed clubhouse, superb recreational facilities, a world class fitness center, a state of the art wellness center, various courts for sporting activities, amenities for arts and crafts, computers, and more, a wood shop and fine gourmet dining facilities. The history of the City of Henderson begins during the 1940s, when it became a center for magnesium production for the Second World War. The Basic Magnesium Plant in Henderson supplied the magnesium for various incendiary munitions and for airplane engines and parts. However, when the war ended, by 1947, magnesium production became unnecessary for national defense, causing the plant to cut back, and resulting in most of its employees moving away. More than half the houses in the town site became vacant as workers left, and by 1947, Henderson was up for sale as part of the war surplus properties around the nation. The Nevada Legislature, deciding to make an effort to save the city if possible, evaluated the possibility of the Basic Magnesium plant being administered by the state. Soon the Colorado River Commission was given the authority to buy the plants, saving Henderson from being sold as war surplus.

Henderson officially incorporated in 1953and quickly grew and flourished. Henderson, and its communities like Anthem have the perfect blend of small town values and big city amenities.
