Koloa Hawaii Quick Facts

Nestled on the southern shores of Kauai, the town of Koloa, Hawaii, is home to a population of almost 2,000 residents. The town is noted as the home to the Old Sugar Mill of Koloa, the first sugar plantation in Hawaii, which no longer operates. There are a number of activities to participate in here, from hiking, fishing and sailing, to snorkeling, swimming and Scuba diving, the area is an excellent region in which residents and visitors can enjoy the sand and the sun. Lay out on the beaches at nearby Poipu Bay, or grab a couple of rounds at the Kiahuna Golf Club.

Koloa is home to the Waiia Reservoir, and is just 12 miles away from Lihue, home to the island's only airport and Nawiliwili Harbor, and where most transportation on and off the island operates from and where the nearest hospital lies. The 10-mile Koloa Heritage Trail run through Koloa, and there are a variety of independent and local art galleries. About a quarter of residents here are employed in tourism, many others work in health care and construction. Koloa Elementary School operates here. Less than half of residents own their homes here, and there is a vibrant rental markets with plenty of units available.
