An area on the southeastern part of the island of Oahu, Hawaii Kai is a mostly residential region with about 30,000 residents, a thriving suburban center about 10 miles west of the state's capital, Honolulu. The area rests north of Maunalua Bay, with the saltwater lake at the Kuapa Fish Pond to the east. The town is a shopper's dream, with three shopping centers: Hawaii Kai Towne Center, Hawaii Kai Shopping Center and Koko Marina Shopping Center, which, in addition to shopping, offers a theater, restaurants and water-sports activities. The area is entirely located within the city and county of Honolulu. Three elementary schools, a middle school and Kaiser High School serve the school-aged children in the area.

There are a number of golf courses within the area to enjoy, with the large Hawaii Kai Championship Golf Course just a couple miles to the east, and the smaller Queen's Gate Golf Course. Other attractions in the town include the Hawaii Kai Recreation Center, Sandy Beach, Makapu?u Lighthouse and beach, Koko Crater Botanical Garden, the From Here to Eternity cove, and Hanauma Bay. Hawaii Kai hosts a number of annual events for residents and visitors to partake in, like the Koko Marina International Festival and the Hawaii Kai Summer Fest. Visitors and residents can enjoy drinks at the Kona Brewing Company, and can participate in a number of clubs and associations in the area, like dancing and canoeing clubs.
