A volcanic tuff cone on Oahu island in Hawaii, Diamond Head is perhaps the most widely recognized feature on the island. Diamond Head is an official United States Monument, and is a popular destination for visitors and residents alike. Though part of the crater is used by the government and closed to the public, the rest includes a famous hiking trail. A three-quarters-mile hike leads visitors onto the rim of the crater, where spectators can catch a breathtaking view of the ocean and bordering Wakiki. The crater measures more than 3,500 feet in diameter, and its summit is 760 feet and cover more than 475 acres.

Diamond Head is also conveniently located near a number of hotels and beaches in the area, on the southeastern coast of the island at the end of Wakiki. The crater has a rich military history in addition to its significance as a recognizable landmark. Diamond Head is known locally in Hawaii as Le'ahi, which means brow of the tuna. Those who have seen the structure will be able to clearly recognize how this nickname came about from its shape. In addition to the trails and views, at the foot of the volcanic crater is the Diamond Head Theatre, where visitors can enjoy a show after their hike.
