Villa Park Facts, History, and Local Events

Villa Park is located in the northern part of Orange County. It is the smallest city population-wise in the OC but it is big on friendliness and community togetherness. However, interesting to note is that the smallest OC city area-wise is La Palma. The population as of 2000 stood at 5600 people. The land is actually 99% filled with buildings, mostly residences as there are about 2000 homes built there. This is a beautiful city run on one shopping center and not a single public park is within its borders.

Villa Park, California is a city that is named "the Hidden Jewel". Its bird is the humming bird while its tree is the weeping fig. Although the history of this city goes as far back as 1860, it was officially incorporated in 1962. Villa Park was initially known as Mountain View but because a postal office needed to be set up there and couldn"t hold the same name as another California office, the area changed its name. The team that was behind many activities in this small city was the Villa Park Women"s League that was set up in 1969. Villa Park was also a predominantly agricultural area where produce like walnuts, citrus, grapes and apricots. Citrus was the major crop for about 60 years and even an association that protected it, Villa Park Orchard Association, came to be. The packing house where all this produce was packed was a Villa Park, Orange County landmark but was unfortunately shut down and destroyed in 1983.

Leadership of Villa Park, Orange County is held by 5 elected council members who lead in 4-year terms. The mandatory practice is that every 4th Tuesday of the month at 7pm, there would be a meeting held with members of the city being encouraged to attend and air their issues. Politically, Villa Park is predominantly Republican, with a little over 66% of the 4533 voters registered voting this way.

The Villa Park school system is under the Orange County Unified School District. The schools in this California city are Serrano and Villa Park Elementary, Cerro Villa Middle School and Villa Park High School.

There are a number of entertainment events and sites to visit. There is the Villa Park City Picnic where music, games and draws are part of this fun late May event which is held at the Irvine Regional Park.
