Scotts Valley Quick Facts

Seven miles north of Santa Cruz along Highway 17, Scotts Valley, California, is nestled among the redwood forests in the upland slopes of the Santa Cruz Mountains. The town, which is home to a population of around 12,000, was named after Hiram Scott, who purchased Rancho San Augustin, including the valley, in 1850. Scotts Valley is located within Santa Cruz County, and is the site of The Beverly Gardens, Kings Village Shopping Center and Scotts Valley Shopping Center, and the nearby Valley Gardens Golf Course. An Art & Wine Festival is celebrated each year. It is conveniently located near Big Basin Redwoods State Park, Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park and Roaring Camp Railroads, and two hotels offer temporary accommodations.

The Scotts Valley Unified School District operates four public schools: Scotts Valley High School, Scotts Valley Middle School and two elementary schools, Vine Hill School and Brook Knoll School. Baymonte Christian School is a private school providing alternative education options for students in pre-school through eighth grade. The town also is the home of Bethany University, a four-year private Christian university with about 500 students. Business located here include the headquarters of Seagate Technology, the world's largest producer of computer hard drives, E-mu Systems and Sessions. The five largest employers in town include Seagate, Borland/Inprise, Threshold Enterprises, AVIZA and Surf Control.
