With the city of San Francisco looming just to its north, San Mateo County, California, encompasses the greater portion of the San Francisco Peninsula and is the place where over 700,000 Californians call home. The seat of the county is Redwood City. The large international San Francisco airport lies in the county's northern portion, and its southern edges include the beginning of Silicon Valley. The county is home to such cities as San Bruno, Woodside, Menlo Park, San Carlos and Daly City. There are many attractions within the county, such as a symphony, several theaters and a string orchestra.
