Newport Beach Facts, History, and Local Events

Newport Coast, California is a prosperous, small community just down the road from Newport Beach, Orange County. On the east and south edge of Newport Beach, Newport Coast is also known as the Pacific Riviera for its affluent lifestyle, gracious living, stunning ocean views and amenities. Its location is firmly within the Southern Orange County or the Golden Coast region, and most residential areas are gated communities combining safety and privacy with resort style living. This roughly 7,500 acre community is a prestigious, prosperous community between Corona Del Mar on one side and Laguna Beach on the other. The Newport Coast area covers sprawling coastal neighborhoods from canyons to beaches. There are more than ample open and green areas preserved for the resident, and beautiful natural landscapes, and multiple nature trails combine with fabulous sunsets and seascapes to make the community a pleasure to visit or call home.

The affluence of the community is obvious when you consider that the estimated median income for a Newport Coast household, in 2008, was $210,164 which is more than three times that of the median for the state of California ($61,021). Property values were much higher than the rest of the state too, with the estimated median house/condo value in the area being $2,352,796 as compared to the $467,000 median for California. Newport Coast is an exclusive residential community, features an abundance of spectacular ocean views, canyons, and beaches. But that’s not all. This contained city community has an award-winning school system, shopping center, several parks, pools, a golf course, and many resorts. This, combined with the numerous industries and employers in the area, makes it a great choice for young families to raise their children in.

The major employers in the area are professional, management, scientific, and administrative, firms, waste management services, finance and insurance, real estate, and manufacturing among others. The schools are part of the Newport-Mesa Unified School District, and far above the state average in SAT scores, with consistent 80th to 90th percentile scores dotted with some in the high 90's. There are exceptional schools and higher education options in the general area including Irvine Valley College, UCI, Concordia University, Pepperdine University etc. The weather is Mediterranean, with year round warm weather and cool ocean breezes. Activities and attraction abound, from golf and spa to good food and shopping. Newport Coast is close enough to the major attractions in the area to access them by a short bike or car ride. The Newport Beach harbor, the Corona Del Mar, the outdoor shopping mall at Fashion Island, stunning white sand beaches and world class gourmet restaurants are all within easy reach.

Historically, Newport Coast remained a census-designated place until it was annexed into Newport Beach in 2001. The estimated population remains a low 7,500 or so, and the master-planned community, developed by the Irvine Company, remains a great place to live and visit for that gracious OC lifestyle. The John Wayne airport, and some major freeways, is just a 10-minute drive away, and San Diego is one hour south while Los Angeles is an hour north. The community maintains 75% of its land as open spaces or golf courses, and there are miles and miles of hiking trails in the Irvine Ranch Land Reserve. Culture immersion is a short drive to Laguna Beach for its art galleries and festivals, and entertainment is all the major Southern California attractions alongside the surf, sun, and walks on the beach, pleasure boat rides, ocean excursions, deep-sea fishing, sailing, and sunset cruises.
