Located near the southern tip of San Francisco Bay and home to over 70,000 residents, Mountain View, California, is part of Silicon Valley and lies within the confines of Santa Clara County. The city is between San Jose and San Francisco, and its name comes from the vistas of the Santa Cruz Mountains that exist here. The city is most commonly known for its place as the home base of the Internet-search company Google and its large headquarters. In addition to it, there are a handful of other technology companies operating out of the city. Wireless Internet access is available for free throughout the city, compliments of Google. A large public library and a center for performing arts are found in the city, as well as a 25,000-person amphitheater and a waterfront golf course.
Two hospitals provide medical care to those here and throughout the area. A NASA research center lies just outside the city. The city is host to annual festivals, including one celebrating arts and wine, an arts festival and summer outdoor concerts. A local museum can teach visitors more about the history of the city, and tech enthusiasts will enjoy the Computer History Museum. The education system in Mountain View includes a dozen public schools and eight private or religious schools. For getting around the city, the Caltrain system provides access from Gilroy to San Francisco. Additionally, a light rail system and several bus lines are operated by the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority.
