Located 120 miles inland and about 50 miles north of Sacramento, the state’s capital, Live Oak, California, is home to a population of approximately 8,000 residents. The town lies along the Highway 99 corridor between the cities of Yuba City and Chico, and provides residents convenient access to San Francisco, Lake Tahoe and Sacramento, with the Sacramento International Airport 45 miles south. Amtrak rail service connections can be made in Sacramento as well, and Greyhound bus lines run in and out of Marysville.

The town is in northern Sutter County and near the Sacramento River. Amenities include a medical clinic, dental offices, a convalescent-care facility, pharmacy and two area hospitals, Fremont/Rideout and Biggs-Gridley Memorial, and the Live Oak Child Care Center is state-funded facility. The community is mostly rural, with farmlands and orchards dotted along the Feather River. The Barber Library serves residents of the town, and the public school system here is made up of a high school, middle school and two elementary schools.
