Just a few miles inland off the bay of San Francisco and about 20 miles from that city, the town of Lafayette, California, is home to about 25,000 residents. The city lies within the boundaries of Contra Costa County and is the home to a reservoir that shares the town’s name and is most popular with residents during the hot months of summer. Two major celebrations that the town celebrates each year include a jazz festival and a festival to acknowledge the arts and wine in the community.
The city of San Francisco is less than 30 minutes away by train on the Bay Area Rapid Transit line system, of which there is a station in Lafayette. Attractions include a theater that produces half a dozen shows each year, a chamber musical organization, an orchestra and an art gallery. The county library operate a branch here as well. The schools here include four public elementaries, a junior and a senior high. There are a handful of private educational institutions also, including a Jewish day school and a Catholic school. Walnut Creek, just six miles from here, is home to the closest hospital.
