La Selva Beach Quick Facts

Just north of the Manresa State Beach, the town of La Selva Beach, California, is a beach town right off Highway 1 and right on Monterey Bay and the Pacific Ocean. It lies about 13 miles south of Santa Cruz and just south of Aptos Seascape Golf Course. The town’s name, "La Selva," means “the jungle” in Spanish, and some speculate could have been named as such for the jungle of fog that commonly surrounds the community. The town is in Santa Cruz County, near the San Andreas Fault, and most of the homes in the area were built in the early 1960s. The town’s biggest attraction is its namesake, the beach, where activities like fishing, surfing, swimming and boogie-boarding can be practiced.

In addition, Triangle Park features a triangular structure, thus its name, with the flags of the world. Annually, the town celebrates a La Selva Beach Fourth of July parade, and transforms its beachfront boulevard during December into what it calls “Candlelight Lane” to celebrate the winter holidays. The Aptos Academy, Rio del Mar Elementary and the Monterey Bay Academy are the nearest educational institutions, and the closest hospitals are in Santa Cruz.
