Directly east of San Francisco, just over the bay, Emeryville, California, is a smaller town that lies on the water. It is home to a population of about 10,000 and lies within the borders of Alameda County, between Oakland and Berkeley. The town, though small, is ideally situated within easy reach of much larger cities, giving residents the opportunity to find most anything they could need nearby. There are two public schools here, a K-6 elementary school and a 7-12 junior-senior high school, and a smaller Montessori school.
Though small, the town is an enclave for technology companies and is most well known as the home to Pixar Animation Studios, famous as the creator of such popular kids’ movies “Finding Nemo” and “Toy Story.” Other corporations headquartered here include MobiTV, Electronic Arts, LeapFrog and Novartis. Moving about the area is made convenient, with an Amtrak train station based in the town, and a Bay Area Rapid Transit regional rail station just two miles away. Attractions here include two film theaters, several shopping centers, a ballroom and a card club. Water-based venues include a marina and the biggest fishing fleet in the region. Annually the town celebrates an arts festival and three galleries are run here.
