Anaheim Hills is a planned community at the eastern end of Anaheim, Orange County. The urban center of Yorba Linda is located to the immediate north. It is home to around 54,000 people, and is considered to be a part of the city of Anaheim. Located in the rolling hills of the Santa Ana Mountains, Anaheim Hills is also close to the communities of Orange and Villa Park. The borders are the California 55 Freeway to the west, continues beyond the Gypsum Canyon to the northeast, and is surrounded - to the east -- by unincorporated Orange County areas and the Cleveland National Forest. The Santa Ana Foothills and Villa Park are to the south. About half of the residential property in the community is fairly new, and much of it is comprised of planned and gated communities. Homes range from affordable to expensive estates running into the millions of dollars. The small town air, quaint charm and magnificent views of snow capped peaks in winter, makes this a lovely community to live in or visit.
Until the planned development of the Anaheim Hills community, only a few scattered neighborhoods with low population density, like Peralta Hills, and Mohler Loop, existed in the area. These were developed in the 1940's and 1950's, the rest of Anaheim Hills didn't develop until the 1970's. This is when rancher Louis Nohl sold his ranch, a huge parcel of land in east Anaheim. This parcel was acquired in 1970 by Texaco Industries who soon announced their plans to develop an upscale master planned community here. It was to have 7,000 homes and estates, and construction began in 1971. Anaheim Hills grew quickly, and had a high school by 1974, under the Orange Unified School District. Anaheim Hills consists of planned neighborhoods like The Highlands, Summit Pointe, Mountain Park, and Sycamore Canyon.
The educational needs of the growing community of Anaheim Hills is met by a superb school system that operates under the Orange Unified School District and runs several elementary, middle and high schools. There are also a number of Colleges and Universities within twenty miles of the community, including the California State University at Fullerton, Chapman University, the University of California at Irvine, many Community Colleges, and eight other colleges. The community balances its quality of life with a well paced economic growth and provides many business opportunities to current and prospective residents. Some of the top employers in the area are the Disneyland Resort, Kaiser Permanente, the Northgate Gonzalez Supermarkets, the Anaheim Memorial Hospital Medical Center, AT&T, and the Hilton Anaheim.
